Imagine a life with less, to have time for… more?

My last post was one of a new direction for Counter Culture. I explained that this change stems from a desire to write more freely — more simply.

This same attitude is something my wife and I have decided to carry-over into all facets of our lives — as much as is possible with a newborn and a toddler. We have committed to living more simply. Not ‘sell all your belongings’ simply, but rather ‘use what we have more wisely and with more intentionality’ — simply.

Ponder on these thoughts more a moment:

Imagine a life with LESS. Less stuff, less clutter, less stress, debt, and DISCONTENT. A life with fewer distractions.

Now imagine a life with MORE. More time, more MEANINGFUL relationships. More GROWTH AND contribution and contentment. A life of PASSION unencumbered by the trappings of the chaotic world around you.

What you’re imagining is AN INTENTIONAL LIFE. Not a perfect life. Not even an easy life. But a simple one.

Those thoughts are from this video:

That documentary will sure to be on my watch list when it is released. The mood of that video, the images of those people, and the narrators voice all capture my sentiment on this subject to a “T”.

I know I’m not alone in this yearning for a life unencumbered with the trappings of the chaotic world around us.

As a Christian, in Jesus I find rest. When I lose focus on the peace found in Him, I stray from what truly matters. But I still have to earn a living, raise a family, and be a loving husband.

How do we find rest, and still be productive members of our family and society? I’m not sure yet, but as I seek these things with my family hopefully we will succeed — and I’ll be sure to share our journey here.

[28]Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. [29] Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. [30] For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” (Mt 11:28-30 ESV)
